To celebrate their anniversary the group have created a comprehensive walks programme full of their favourite south Wales walks over the years, from coastal adventures, to hidden gems in the valleys and the challenging peaks of the Bannau Brycheiniog.
The Cardiff group is the largest in the country with over 600 members, with over a 100 of them walking weekly.
As well as being a great way to boost health and well-being, the group also provides people with an important opportunity to socialise and make friends.
Rob Smith of Cardiff Ramblers who has been part of the group since it started 40 years ago said: “It’s been amazing to see the group grow and develop over the years. I hope new members will join us and get the same enjoyment out of the walks over the next 40 years, as I have done throughout the last 40!
Cardiff Ramblers volunteer Publicity officer, Barry Southwell said: “There’s nothing better than a walk in nature with friends to clear the mind and keep fit and healthy. It’s amazing to think that the group that started small all those years ago, now delivers over 200 walks a year, with something for everyone to enjoy.
“The programme of walks to celebrate the anniversary allows so many of our members to revisit their favourite places once again, and a great chance for new members to join us and have a great experience.”
The group is one of over 40 in Wales that offer group walks, fight for access rights, and improve paths.
Angela Charlton, director of Ramblers Cymru said: “The volunteers and groups are the heartbeat of our organisation. Their commitment and dedication to protecting our access rights and providing excellent opportunities for everyone to explore the great outdoors are an inspiration.
“I would like to congratulate Cardiff Ramblers on reaching this milestone and I look forward to joining them on one of their celebratory walks in the coming weeks.”
These 5-18 mile walks will take place between April and September and the full programme of walks can be seen here: www.cardifframblers.org.uk/walks/walks-programme
