TEENAGERS at youth centres across Cardiff are to take part in free live events and are being offered online classes encouraging them to start businesses, as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW).
Over three thousand young people are entitled to join classes with titles including “How to make more money than your friends” and “Lessons from YouTube influencers” through the ‘Think Like a Rebel’ campaign.
The week-long event series is being backed by Cardiff Youth Service and Cardiff City Council.
Fun-packed workshops and lessons will be taking place in youth centres and online, where teenagers aged 14-19 will be educated, informed and inspired by experienced entrepreneurs in a bid to get more young people to start-up businesses.
Think Like a Rebel starts on Monday November 8, and youth centres in North Ely, East Moors, Powerhouse, Llanrummey, Bute Town and St Mellons are taking part.
The plan is the brainchild of TheRebel Business School, which, in 2021, won a Queen’s Award for Promoting Opportunity.
“For most kids, entrepreneurship isn’t even on their radar. But you’re never too young to start and there are so many ways to make money,” says Simon Paine, co-founder of The Rebel Business School.
“You can start a business while you’re still at school and you don’t need money or a business plan to do it. We’ll teach them how to do it all, completely free.
“We aren’t going to be teaching them business plans or boring nonsense. Instead, we are going to be showing them things they can relate to, like how to use social media to sell simple products.”
Craig Bartlett, a senior youth officer at the Cardiff Youth Service, added: “We’ve backed the Think Like a Rebel campaign because it’s about getting young people to think differently. It will show them making their own money while doing something they love is an option open to them.
“The teenagers will be exposed to a range of fresh and unique content and ideas, including video lessons from young entrepreneurs that will inspire the next generation.”
