If you are a newbie to the gambling arena and want to give it a shot and see what all the fuss is about, you might want to take a few hints and tips on board and find out what not to do first before you dive right in and play online casino.

Whether you want to try out your gambling skills and strategies on table games like Blackjack or if you’re chomping at the bit to see if you can win a life-changing jackpot on online slot games, you’ll want to know what not to do before you part with your hard-earned cash. So, with this in mind, if you want to get the maximum thrill, enjoyment and winnings out for your gambling, follow these casino commandments to keep you on the right track! These “commandments” can be applied to both online and land-based casinos, so we have got it all covered!

Commandment 1: Thou Shalt Not – Blow Your Budget!

Casino designers know exactly what they’re doing when it comes to designing a casino that makes you completely forget about the outside or “real world” and feel completely immersed in the casino without distraction. Modern casinos are specially designed to be open plan with decadent artwork, sculptures and filled with attractive light, making you never want to leave. This feeling of freedom is not surprisingly very successful in trapping players in the casinos, which just goes to show that psychologically, the design of casinos is incredibly important in persuading players to stay longer and subsequently place more bets – so be mindful of how long you spend in the casino and only stay and spend what your budget will allow and avoid walking away with a completely drained bankroll!

Commandment 2. Thou Shalt Not – Play at Illegitimate Casinos!

Not all casino sites are legitimate and it’s important to make sure you’re playing on a site that is regulated so that you can expect a fair game. The illegal gambling industry is much bigger than you might expect with over £500b per year being spent in illegal casinos which is just a mind-blowing figure! The games in illegal casinos, because they aren’t regulated by any independent body, are much more likely to be fixed or have an unfair advantage for players because there is nothing to stop the casino as there are no regulations to abide by and no code of practice for the ageing their customers fairly. To avoid falling into the trap of unwittingly playing a game at an illegal online casino, do your homework and only play on a casino site that you can trust. If you have any doubts or see any red flags, avoid betting your money!

Commandment 3. Thou Shalt Not – Place Side Bets (without understanding the risks!)

This is a contentious issue and some players may not want to abide by this particular casino commandment! This is because there are advantages and disadvantage of side bets, especially in games like Blackjack. The advantages of side bets for many players is that they find they make the game more interesting and exciting to play, and we can’t deny that! Side bets add another element to the game, so if you’re used to playing the game and want to switch it up a little, side bets could be just the key. But, beware the disadvantages of side bets as they aren’t always a good thing and side bets do not require skill, they are purely based on luck, so you are risking your bankroll on chance and chance alone. This might be something that gamblers are fine with, as a lot of games are down to the luck of the draw, however, the winnings that you would receive from a side bet are not always reflective of the odds, so you could potentially be taking a risk with your money which isn’t worth the return and on side bets, the house always has a significant edge, especially in comparison to the bets on the main game like Blackjack for example. For this reason, many players choose to steer clear of side bets!

Commandment 4. Thou Shalt Not Make Uncalculated Risks

Let’s face it, the end game for a lot of players when gambling is to walk away with some money and that starts with looking after your bottom dollar first and foremost and make sure you don’t take any uncalculated risks. This means looking after your bankroll and knowing what you’re letting yourself in for before you play. Some players like to just go with their instinct instead of reasoning and end up putting their hunches before calculating the risks of a certain strategy and this wouldn’t be wise! If you get to the point where you’re finding yourself going out on a limb to follow a hunch, it’s probably time to take a step back and take a breather from gambling to mitigate any losses!

Commandment 5. Thou Shalt Always Read the T&Cs

Failing to prepare is preparing to fail as they say, and this certainly applies to gambling, especially when playing slots. Before you spin the reels and part with your hard-earned money, make sure you know the betting requirements and read up about the game to find out how to play, what the features of the game are and how to withdraw your winnings at the end of the game. Betting requirements are very important, as on many slots you will need to be able to meet the betting requirements in order to withdraw your winnings, so before you play, make sure that you’ve read up how to do this to avoid being disappointed when you can’t withdraw your winnings!

There we have it, not quite the 10 commandments that God issued that Moses delivered on Mount Sinai, but five very helpful casino commandments which should make it easier for you to enjoy betting and playing. With any luck, these commandments will help you to be victorious, whether you’re playing table games at a brick and mortar casino or video slots online.
