Christ College Brecon has welcomed a new Head of Cricket who will join the school with over 10 years’ experience as a national coach.

Alistair Waldron has joined Christ College for the 2022/23 academic year in addition to his role as Director of Cricket at Ebbw Vale Cricket Club. Prior to that, Alistair coached Glamorgan and Wales teams at U13 and U15 as well as working in sports development for national governing bodies for more than a decade.

As a sports enthusiast and former cricket player himself, Alistair aims to introduce a new program for emerging players, giving additional support to national pathway players by engaging directly with Glamorgan and Cricket Wales. He also plans to review and restructure the fixture list to increase playing opportunities internally and externally.

Alongside his teaching role, Alistair manages his own business, AW Cricket Coaching, and is currently completing his England & Wales Cricket Board Level 4 Specialist Coach qualification. He said: “I’m excited to be joining Christ College Brecon and help develop cricket amongst the pupils. It’s great to use my coaching experience to engage and empower young people and instil a passion for playing. Throughout my work history I have taken every opportunity to develop and implement new systems and improve existing ones with great success and I hope to use my knowledge of the performance pathway to help develop promising players.”

Head of Christ College, Gareth Pearson said: “It’s great to have Alistair joining us at Christ College, he will be an exciting addition to our faculty. His extensive experience across the South Wales cricket scene has equipped him perfectly to suit the role and it is clear he has great passion for the sport and educating others. We’re really looking forward to him joining us this year.”

Set within the Brecon Beacons National Park, Christ College is an independent co-educational boarding and day school, with 400 pupils on roll between the ages of five to 18.

The school’s next Open Morning is October 1st. Sports Scholarship Assessments will be taking place on November 9th.
