Club Tropicana musical transports you back to the 80s

Thanks to the Wales Millennium Centre for inviting us along to see the show in exchange for this review.

Having toured the UK since the start of the year, it’s now turn for south Wales audiences to be transported back and wowed with 80s smash hits with Club Tropicana, the musical.
    Club Tropicana – The Musical

This all star cast is led by Joe McElderry (X Factor winner and star of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat), Neil McDermott (EastEnders, The Sound of Music), Kate Robbins (Spitting Image, Dinnerladies), Emily Tierney (Wicked, The Wizard of Oz); and Camilla Rowland, actress, dancer and choreographer.

As you take your seats, you are welcomed as guests to Club Tropicana Hotel, dubbed the 1980s answer to Love Island. The drinks are free and the whole family is invited to join the ultimate holiday musical, celebrating all that we love about the 80s.

The underlining story is about two love birds; the bride gets cold feet and leaves the groom at the alter. Friends are left to pick up the pieces and in a bid to take their minds off things, each group jet off to sunnier climates.

Little do they know, they all end up at the same hotel, Club Tropicana.

Further to twists to the story involve a dubious hotel inspector, and the chemistry of the hotel proprietors Robert (Neil McDermott) and Christine (Emily Tierney), will they realise their true feelings before it’s too late? Will the bride and groom rekindle their affections?

Get the answers to all of these and more by booking a stay at Club Tropicana Hotel this week. Don’t leave it too late though, or risk it being fully booked in what is a highly popular musical.

The antics of the cast will leave you in stitches throughout.

A special mention has to go to Kate Robbins. Look out for the ‘signs’, you will not be disappointed by her comical performance and remarkable singing voice. There is a Susan Boyle-esk about the entire thing. I’ve said too much already.

What can we say about the music? It’s the 80s after all. Set to the most iconic and recognisable pop anthems of the era, performed live on stage, including: Just Can’t Get Enough, Take On Me, The Look of Love, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Relax and many more! I’ve said enough.

Club Tropicana can be seen at the Wales Millennium Centre until Saturday 17 August.
