Council makes it easier for suppliers to bid for contracts

A new webpage is now available to point Swansea businesses in the direction of work opportunities for the council.

The webpage at www.swansea.gov.uk/tenderingopportunities is being kept updated by the council to show current work that businesses can bid for and the deadlines for bids.

Contracts currently live for bids include flooring, videography and cavity wall insulation removal works.

The launch of the webpage follows-on from the availability of grants of up to £1,000 to help local Swansea businesses bid for public sector or larger-scale contracts.

Successful business applicants will be able to use the funding to help access training for the accreditation that’s needed to bid for work of this kind.

Run by Swansea Council and funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, the supplier development grant requires applicants to provide 50% of the costs in match-funding.

All applicants also have to provide a business summary and a 12-month cashflow forecast.

Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Investment, Regeneration and Tourism, said: “We want to make opportunities to bid for council work and contracts as visible and as easy as possible for local businesses.

“The new webpage that’s been put together will a good resource for businesses to check from time to time as it’ll be kept updated, and bidding opportunities will also be featured on the council’s social media feeds, including LinkedIn.

“We also recognise that the process of bidding can sometimes be a challenge for smaller business, so the supplier development grant is in place to help and we’d encourage applications from any businesses that think they could benefit.”
