Council’s festive food bank appeal to residents

Caerphilly County Borough Council is appealing for residents to support their local food bank during the festive season.

Food banks provide emergency food and support to families and individuals who find themselves in financial crisis.  They rely heavily upon donations, particularly during the Christmas period, and have seen demand for their support increase as a result of the pandemic.

The Council is asking residents to buy an extra item of non-perishable food during their usual shop and place it at one of the county borough’s donation points.  Christmas items are particularly encouraged, such as cakes, chocolates and children’s selection boxes.

Donations can be taken to:

  • Rhymney Integrated Health Centre
  • Tesco, Ystrad Mynach
  • Morrisons, Bargoed
  • St Peter’s Church, Aberbargoed (Wednesdays 12:30pm-2:30pm)
  • Tesco Extra, Risca
  • Morrisons, Rogerstone
  • Aldi, Risca
  • One Stop, Risca
  • Asda, Blackwood
  • Tesco, Crossways, Caerphilly
  • Oasis Christian Centre, Bryn Road, Cefn Fforest (Thursdays 10:00am-12:00pm)
  • Asda, Caerphilly
  • Connect Life Church, Crescent Road, Caerphilly (Tuesdays and Wednesdays 10:00am – 1:00pm)

Cash or supermarket gift cards are also being accepted between 10th November and 4th December, alongside the Council’s Operation Santa appeal.  Donations should be placed into an envelope cleared marked ‘Food bank collection’ and placed in the post box at the front of the Council’s Penallta House building or one of the Operation Santa collection boxes at the following Leisure Centres: Caerphilly, Newbridge, Heolddu, Risca, Cefn Fforest and Bedwas.
