Deliberate damage to art trail signs investigated by police

Signs for Fishguard’s new art trail have been targeted, causing around £400 of damage.

Pembrokeshire County Council has contacted Dyfed-Powys Police after five metal fingerpost way-markers appear to have been deliberately cut from signposts in Fishguard recently.

The signs direct residents and visitors to the Art Afoot /Celf ar Droed trail, which launched in December and has been a popular attraction in the seaside town, funded by UK Government.

A local resident found one of the cut off signs and reported it to Fishguard Town Council. One was vandalised at the start of the Marine Walk, another on the pathway between the community orchard near Ysgol Bro Gwaun and one by the bypass.

Other signs on the same posts remain so it appears that someone is deliberately targeting the art trail.

Cabinet Member for Residents’ Services Cllrs Rhys Sinnett said: “It is frustrating that someone has seen fit to try and spoil what has been enjoyed by so many people in the area, and therefore caused an extra cost to the tax payer. The Art Afoot/Celf ar Droed trail is still accessible and we aim to have these way-markers back in place as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dyfed-Powys Police on 101, quoting Crime Reference Number 25000060212.
