Deloitte reaches 1,000th employee milestone in Wales

Deloitte is celebrating hiring its 1,000th employee in Wales. Since choosing Cardiff as the location for its strategic near-shore delivery centre three years ago, the firm has grown rapidly in the capital, with four sites and plans to extend the range of services it offers.

Wayne Harvey, senior partner for Deloitte in Wales, said:

“This is a celebration of our people, not just our growth. I’m very proud of what we have achieved here. Not that long ago we had around 150 people. Now, with a 1,000-strong workforce and further recruitment planned for 2019 and beyond, we have firmly cemented Cardiff’s position as Deloitte’s second largest office in the UK.

“We have a diverse and enthusiastic team in South Wales. Our people really love the city: Cardiff is a great place to live and work.”

Deloitte has a long-established and highly successful client office located in Cardiff that delivers advisory and technology services to many leading businesses across Wales, as well as national and global clients. It can trace its roots in the city over 100 years, with its first practice centred in the docks working with shipping clients.

The Cardiff office is also now home to numerous internal support and external client service teams that work with UK and overseas clients and over 50 languages are spoken across the business. Alongside audit, tax and financial advisory services, Deloitte also has teams focused on multi-lingual research, international tax administration, data analytics, robotic software development and forensic accounting.

The range of roles, skills and the scale of activity in Cardiff has seen Deloitte embrace new entry paths into the firm and expand its recruitment demographic. The firm is increasingly focused on providing opportunities to young people outside of the more traditional graduate recruitment methods.

Wayne explained:

“Our BrightStart higher level apprenticeship scheme is an important entry route for many of our people who join us aged 18 or 19 or as an alternative to university. We also have a very successful and award-winning business administration apprenticeship programme developed and delivered in partnership with Cardiff & Vale College.

“Our progressive approach to career development and being at the forefront of innovation are other reasons for our success. We not only provide our people with new and exciting opportunities, but we also encourage them to broaden and develop their skills. This has enabled us to build a rich mix of talented teams in Cardiff who are gaining a great reputation internationally.”
