Digital advertising giant signs major deal with Wales-wide transport network

ROUTE MEDIA is on track for another successful year after securing a major national contract.

A pioneer in outdoor and digital advertising, the company is the new sales partner of Transport for Wales.

Digital and static media will be on display at stations, roads and on bridges in towns and cities across the country including Cardiff, Newport, Swansea, Rhyl, Wrexham, Bangor, Flint, and Holyhead, and over the border in Shrewsbury and Chester.

Transport for Wales was set up by Welsh Government in 2016 to oversee public transport in Wales, and this innovative partnership reinforces its focus on customer experience, the environment and wider impact on the Welsh economy in support of the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act.

Owain Taylor-Shaw, Senior Commercial Development Manager at Transport for Wales, is delighted to be working alongside a leading Wales-based business and said: “We are very excited to announce Route Media as our new advertising sales partner across our vast media estate, spanning both the rail and road portfolio.

“The barriers to entry to operate at this level are usually too significant for smaller operators to overcome as the sector is dominated by big global players, but Transport for Wales is pleased to provide this platform to enable a Welsh SME to grow and reach the next level.”

He added: “This partnership will create new employment in Wales, enrich our Welsh-only supply-chain and create the opportunity for Welsh businesses to promote to our passengers on a hyper-local level.”

As part of the seven-year deal, both organisations aim to eventually switch the Transport for Wales estate from static to sustainable digital assets, lowering its carbon footprint nationwide.

Adding this contract to Route Media’s existing portfolio means they will now supply advertising space across more than 700 sites in Wales, including TfW’s digital and static media offering.

Route Media’s Managing Director Rhys Harrington said: “As a Welsh business we are proud to now be in partnership with Transport for Wales.

“Like them, we are always looking to support our economy, working alongside a network of Welsh sub-contractors, and moving towards our ‘digital-first’ vision as a sustainable, socially conscious business.”
