Dogs Trust Cardiff celebrates 600 dogs find loving homes in the first year

The team are hoping Kiko will find her forever home soon

Tails are wagging at Dogs Trust Cardiff as they celebrate a year of rehoming dogs across Wales and beyond.

Since the state-of-the-art rehoming centre started finding loving homes for dogs in August 2021, the team have rehomed 600 dogs, and are confident that thanks to the support of the dog loving public, they will continue to find many dogs their perfect homes in the months and years to come.

Kim Davies, Deputy Manager at Dogs Trust Cardiff, said: “Everything we have achieved in this past year is down to the public; from rehoming our wonderful dogs and constantly bringing in donations of everything from treats and toys throughout the year. It has been amazing.

“Our dogs are a joy to be with and there have been so many highlights over the last twelve months. Essentially we have had 600 highlights – every time one of our dogs heads off to their forever home!”

One of the dogs hoping to find her forever home soon is Dogs Trust Cardiff’s longest term resident, Kiko, who has been in their care for almost six months.

Kim says: “Kiko is such a clever girl – she outsmarts us all the time, so we’d love to find her a loving home with a family who can help her thrive and continue with her training. Once you’ve gained her trust, she is loving and affectionate, things just need to go at her pace to begin with. Underneath her stern exterior, she is super sensitive, but give her a puzzle to work out, or a quiet walk in the countryside and you’ll have a loyal companion for life.”

As well as rehoming almost every breed and size of dog, from Great Danes to Chihuahuas, Bulldogs to Bichon Frises, in the past year an estimated:

  • 7,000kg of dried dog food has been eaten
  • 3,000 packets of doggie treats have been enjoyed
  • 6,000 loads of laundry have been washed
  • 40,000 miles have been walked

In addition, the team have cared for 70 puppies in their dedicated puppy suite, placed 172 dogs in foster homes and 60 volunteers have donated over 2,000 hours of their time.
