Over the past year, Caerphilly Council has been busy making major upgrades and improvements to sports facilities across the county borough.
In collaboration with Welsh Government and Sports Wales, a new hockey hub has been built with a 2G Astroturf multi-use, all-weather sporting pitch. We saw the opening of the first Athletics Track in Caerphilly. The six-lane, 300 metre floodlit running track also boasts an additional area for off field athletic events such as long jump, high jump, shotput, and javelin. Multiple Astro Turf pitches have been upgraded to 3G pitches and now benefit schools, the community and local clubs and teams.
Cabinet Member for Leisure, Cllr Chris Morgan commented, “The amazing footage shows the quality of our world class facilities now available in the borough. The opening of these facilities in Caerphilly provides an excellent opportunity for athletes of all abilities. They will allow both adults and children to either remain active or inspire others to utilise the local facility without having to travel outside of the borough.
The facilities provide the community with the opportunity to keep fit, stay active and maintain a healthy way of living. We are providing the resources for the next generation of athletic starts to be able to develop here within Caerphilly County Borough”.
