Colourful Christmas elves will soon be spreading Christmas cheer and important Covid-19 safety messages in Cardiff city centre.
Decked out in a variety of festive costumes the eight elves, alongside a team of 12 safety stewards, will have an important message for visitors – to keep Cardiff safe this Christmas.
Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, Cllr Peter Bradbury, said: “We want Christmas in Cardiff to be full of seasonal cheer, and the Elf and Safety team offer a friendly, light-hearted way of delivering a really important message.
“Christmas is the season of goodwill and in keeping with that spirit the team will be asking people to follow the rules and keep each other, and Cardiff safe.”
Our new Elf and Safety team will be spreading seasonal cheer and #COVID19 safety messages to shoppers throughout the Christmas period.

As part of the drive to help keep Cardiff safe this Christmas, visitors are being advised to:
- Plan your trip in advance– knowing where you plan to go, whether that’s the traditional Christmas Markets, St David’s Centre or the Edwardian and Victorian arcades, planning trips in advance is a good way to stay safe this Christmas.
- Think about when to visit –weekends tend to be busier, so to miss the crowds but not the shops, consider visiting midweek.
- Keep your distance –keeping a 2 metre distance between yourself and others is one of the best ways to stay safe this Christmas. Everyone can play their part in this by following the on-street markings.
- Keep your mask on –wearing a face covering inside is now a legal requirement in all public indoor spaces, but for a safer Christmas in Cardiff consider wearing one outside as well, particularly in queues.
- Think about others –Christmas is a time for goodwill to all men (and women) and the best way to keep Wales safe this Christmas is for everyone to play their part, follow the rules and do their best to keep each other safe.
