The annual Velindre Castle 2 Castle fun run is due to return this September, with Caerphilly-based pie and pastry baker Peter’s as headline sponsor.

The popular event will see 1000 participants of varying fitness levels run from Caerphilly Castle to Cardiff Castle on Sunday 10 September.

With competitive runners alongside first-time runners, the fun run sees the original 11 mile route between the two castles back in aid of Velindre Cancer Charity.

Since the event’s inception in 2018, it has raised over £130,000 for Velindre, the Hospital of Hope, which supports cancer patients and their families in Wales.

This year the headline sponsor is local business Peter’s, and it has been organised in association with Caerphilly Runners.

Entry is now OPEN for Castle 2 Castle 2023 sponsored by @OfficialPeters 🏃🥇🎉

Kylie McKee, Deputy Head of Fundraising at Velindre Cancer Charity, said: “We’re so excited to see the Castle 2 Castle event return this year, bigger and better than ever.

“We’re so grateful to have long-time supporters Peter’s on board as headline sponsors, and with lots of their staff community planning to take part, we hope their support will help us deliver a much better event and raise more than ever for cancer patients and their families in South Wales. We may even see a special appearance from Pete the Pie taking on our very own Lomu the Lion.”

Mike Grimwood, Managing Director of Peter’s, said: “We’re very much looking forward to the return of the Castle 2 Castle event this September. The event is not only fun for the community but raises funds for an incredible charity, Velindre. With our own staff community of over 600 local people, we all know someone who has been affected by cancer and who has been supported by Velindre. The work they do is life changing and we are proud to support them.

“We will be putting our full support behind this event to make it the best ever and raise even more funds for this deserving cause.”

Entries for the Velindre Castle 2 Castle fun run opened on Wednesday 21 July at 12pm with tickets selling fast. You can find out more at https://tinyurl.com/ycyjmy5w or email [email protected]
