Women in Sport Journalism Conference
December 13 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm
2018 has been a watershed year for women in many ways, not least in increasingly prominent roles covering sports on our screens, over the airways, online and in print.
NUJ Training Wales is delighted to be working with Cardiff Metropolitan University and Welsh equalities charity Chwarae Teg to bring together some of the leading female voices from the Welsh sports media and beyond for this important half-day conference.
We will have keynote speeches from Cerys Furlong, CEO of Chwarae Teg and Anna Kessel MBE, co-founder of Women in Football and journalist at The Guardian.
Anna will also join our Print & Online Industry Panel in the morning which will be chaired by Julie Kissick, football writer, broadcaster and academic at University of South Wales. The panel will also include Catrin Pascoe, Editor of The Western Mail, and Welsh Journalist of the Year 2018 Katie Sands of WalesOnline.
BBC Cymru Wales’ Dot Davies will chair the Broadcast Industry Panel in the afternoon. She’ll be joined by producer & writer Carolyn Hitt, S4C’s Sports Editor Sue Butler, former Hockey international and freelance broadcaster Beth Fisher, and football & netball international and TV & radio pundit Nia Jones.
We will also have a special panel of female sports journalism students, including Winter Olympian Mica Moore, who will share their backgrounds and their hopes for their futures within the industry.
This is a unique and not-to-be-missed opportunity for anyone with an interest in sport, sports media and equalities to learn from and connect with some of the most interesting and insightful media professionals, academics and future sports journalists in our industry.
Tickets are free for students (£5 refundable deposit), £5 for NUJ members living or working in Wales (+£5 refundable deposit), £15 for members of other trade unions (+£5 refundable deposit) and a flat £25 for everyone else.
