As the May half-term approaches, many are looking for fun adventures for all the family. The Dramatic Heart of Wales, Neath Port Talbot, offers everything from family-friendly music festivals to nature adventures ¾ the busy calendar of events promises an action-packed half-term.
Family Festivals
Kicking off the half-term festivities is the In It Together Festival, promising three days of music and entertainment from Friday, May 24th to Sunday, May 26th at Old Park Farm in Margam.
With over 150 artists, including headliners Rag’n’Bone Man, Sugababes, and Dizzee Rascal, the festival expects to draw over 50,000 attendees. Offering over 100 free family activities, including a climbing wall, science workshops, circus fun and the incredible junior jungle, the festival will bring fun for all ages.
On the same weekend, kites of all shapes and sizes will fill the sky at Margam’s International Kite Festival. A beloved decade-long tradition in the area, the event takes place from Saturday, 25th to Monday 27th May. Visitors are welcome to fly their own kites, or simply watch the kites take to the skies against the beautiful backdrop of Margam Castle.
Watersports galore
Water-loving families can make a splash this half-term by hiring pedalos, canoes, kayaks, and SUPs with South Wales Adventure Company and Margam Adventure.
Lessons are available to book at Aberavon Seafront with Surf School Wales, which are suitable for all abilities: from beginners, to those wishing to perfect their technique.
To tick a box on their bucket list, visitors to the region can even embark on a star-lit adventure by night kayaking with South Wales Adventure Company.

Mountain Biking
From hairpin turns and thrilling drops at Afan Forest Park, to family-friendly trails at Margam Country Park, there are mountain bike routes for all levels.
Afan A Blast at Glyncorrwg Mountain Bike Centre ensures that all families are equipped for an unforgettable bike journey with daily bike hire. Margam Adventure also provides hire options, including pedal go-carts, electric bikes, and mountain bikes promising an action-packed holiday for biking enthusiasts of all ages. Margam Adventure is hosting a guided e-bike tour and a guided mountain bike tour on June 1st, exploring the rugged terrain and scenic trails of the Margam valley.
Animal Adventures
Margam Country Park’s farm trail offers the chance to meet the much-loved animals, including pygmy goats, ponies rabbits, pedigree sheep, Glamorgan cattle and donkeys. Events and activities for families include:
