First new Caerphilly Council homes completed

Bedwellty Field

Work is now complete on the first council homes to be built in the Caerphilly county borough in 19 years.

The homes were officially ‘handed over’ to Caerphilly County Borough Council recently by developer Llanmoor Homes at Bedwellty Field, Aberbargoed.  There are 6 social rent homes on the 55-property development which will be owned and managed by the council, as well as 2 low cost home ownership properties, which will offer opportunities for first time buyers to purchase their own home.

Cllr Philippa Marsden, Leader of Caerphilly Council, said “This is an incredibly significant moment, as we begin to deliver on our promise to increase the supply of council housing in the county borough.  Our ambitious programme will see new council homes developed by us, as well as in partnership with private developers, throughout the county borough over the coming years.”

The council’s Cabinet Member for Housing, Cllr Lisa Phipps, added “We know that there is an increasing demand for social housing in the county borough and are committed to help meet that need.  We’re grateful to Llanmoor for working in partnership with us to deliver these high-quality new homes, which will be allocated through our Common Housing Register.”

Tim Grey, Sales Director of Llanmoor Homes, commented “We are extremely pleased to have handed over the first affordable social homes for residents at our popular Bedwellty Field, Aberbargoed development. We have worked closely with Caerphilly County Borough Council to create a community that we are exceptionally proud of. There is a strong need for affordable homes across the borough and it is our priority to ensure that Llanmoor Homes provide the highest quality homes available across our South Wales developments for both open market and affordable sale.”
