A by-law which helps control where pet owners and their animals can visit on Swansea Bay, is being reviewed, to help meet the future needs of all beachgoers.
Swansea Council wants to hear from dog-owners and other beach users about the current restrictions, which are in place between the months of May and September and are there to ensure dogs and their owners only visit dog-friendly sections of the bay.
The by-law has been in place since 1991 and has helped ensure dog-owners can access the beach and also ensures families that are nervous around animals can go to sections of the bay that are free of dogs.
David Hopkins, Cabinet Member for Corporate Service and Performance, said: “Swansea Bay is a well visited and much-loved destination, particularly during the summer months.
“The by-law has been in place for many years and has helped ensure everyone can access the beach either with their pet or without.
“The consultation is only about Swansea Bay and not about our other beaches where there are summer restrictions on dogs. Our aim is to now look at the details of the by law and listen to the public’s views on the restrictions. We want to hear from people who visit Swansea Bay, whether they are dog owners or otherwise.
“Once the consultation has been conducted, we can look at the comments and see if we need to amend the existing by-law to help improve the experience for everyone that goes to Swansea Bay.”
