A Golf Academy star continued his exceptional recent form at a national competition.
Reuben Bather, a Year 10 pupil at Rydal Penrhos, travelled to Borth and Ynylas Golf Club last month to compete at the Central Wales Boys’ Championships, which featured some of the finest young talent anywhere in the country.
Despite being one of the youngest competing at the event, the 14-year-old turned in a fabulous first round to find himself just two shots off the lead after an opening gross score of 71.
This was followed by a second round score of 80 in difficult conditions to secure an eighth placed finish for his efforts, and was just five off the overall winner.
The Maesdu Golf Club Junior captain has enjoyed a phenomenal amount of success since joining Rydal Penrhos, where he has been honing his skills under the guidance of the school’s dedicated coaching staff led by programme co-ordinator Ian Richardson.
His efforts with the Strength and Conditioning department have also brought with it significant benefits, with his crowning glory coming in an outstanding performance to help Wales to a historic win at the Quadrangular International Championship.
Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said:
“Reuben continues to show his qualities both on-and-off the golf course, and to achieve such a level of consistency despite his relatively young age is incredibly promising.
“There is no doubt that Reuben is destined for great things if he continues to show the same application to improving not only his game, but his conditioning as part of our fantastic strength and conditioning programme.”
