Gower celebrates local produce in its first food and drink event

One of Wales’ most picturesque spots is set to showcase its talents in food and drink in the Gower Food and Drink Festival on Saturday, September 7.

Local charities are also set to benefit from the event that will boast a huge selection of locally-produced edible and drinkable goodies.

There will also be mouth-watering music on show as well at Pennard Community Fields in the heart of Gower’s golden countryside.

The event is being supported with a grant from the UK Government via Swansea Council’s Rural Anchor initiative to help kick it off for its first year and it is intended to be a regular end of summer jamboree run by the community in the future.

Robert Francis-Davies, Cabinet Member for Investment, Regeneration, Tourism and Events said: “We’ve always known that the most beautiful countryside in Wales is a feast on the eyes of hundreds of thousands of visitors we welcome every year.

“Now people will be able to enjoy the rich fruits of Swansea-produced food  and drink as well.

“So far our Rural Anchor initiative has supported more than 30 community projects all across Swansea, with many of them benefiting Gower. It’s all part of Swansea Council’s continuing commitment to support jobs, businesses and communities across the city.”

Among Gower businesses producing locally-produced treats will be Tir a Mor Bakes and Gower Preserves. Also there will be meat producers Wild and Rare who’ve been regulars at Mumbles Farmer’s Market for more than 20 years and other food and drink businesses from Carmarthenshire, Neath and South Wales.

The Gower Food and Drink Festival is being supported by its community as well, with the local primary school’s PTA fundraising for local charities by selling entry and car parking tickets. Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service will be sending a fire engine along.

There will be a range of other community stalls and attractions as well, featuring local businesses, the RSPB and the Gower Society.

Dogs on leads are welcome to bring their human families too.

With a £3 entry fee (under 11s go free) shared amongst local charities, the festival will have positive impacts on local suppliers and producers, local charities and the surrounding community.
