Have your say on proposed new care accommodation in Mountain Ash

There is still time to take part in Linc Cymru’s consultation for a proposed development in Mountain Ash, that would provide new care accommodation for older people.

The Council is committed to modernising care accommodation for older people, including a multi-million pound investment to increase the extra care housing provision across the County Borough in partnership with Linc Cymru (Linc). As part of this commitment, Linc is progressing significant proposals to develop new care accommodation on vacant brownfield land off Darran Road in Mountain Ash.

The development could include a three-storey building that supports 25 extra care apartments and 15 residential dementia care beds. It would benefit from a host of amenities such as a lounge, dining rooms, a day room, a hair salon and sensory rooms. In addition, eight ‘Later Living’ bungalows could be included within the wider site – as illustrated in the artist’s impression image provided.

Pedestrian and vehicle accesses to the site would be improved, while 34 car park spaces would be provided. Biodiversity enhancements would be made throughout the development, including sustainable urban drainage features.

Linc is currently undertaking a consultation about the proposed development, which ends on Tuesday, May 28.This is an opportunity for the public to find out more and have their say on what is proposed – to help Linc further shape the plans before submitting a formal planning application.

A dedicated consultation webpage is available here. It provides detailed information on the proposed development – including drawings, draft planning application forms, a design and access statement, and an ecology report.

The public can submit their views using a box at the bottom of the webpage. Alternatively, they can get in touch via email ([email protected]) or by post – to Consultation Team, c/o Turley, 18 Windsor Place, Cardiff CF10 3BY.

Councillor Gareth Caple, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care, said: “I urge residents to find out more about this exciting development proposal which would provide a brand new care accommodation for Mountain Ash, as part of a multi-million pound investment to modernise care accommodation for older people agreed by the Council last year.

“The proposal, being developed in partnership with Linc, includes 25 extra care apartments that would further contribute to our goal to increase this specialist housing provision in Rhondda Cynon Taf. Extra care provides 24/7 support to meet residents’ assessed needs, helping them live independently for as long as possible – our existing schemes in Talbot Green, Aberaman and Graig are very popular within their communities. In February this year, construction work restarted on our fourth extra care scheme, which will provide 60 more extra care apartments at the former Dan y Mynydd Care Home site in Porth.

“Linc intends to submit a planning application for the future Mountain Ash development in the months ahead, and the ongoing consultation is an opportunity for the community to access detailed information about what is planned, and to have their say. All feedback received before the deadline on May 28 will be considered, to help shape Linc’s final planning submission.”
