Hemmels restored classic 190 SL takes centre-stage at Mercedes-Benz world

A Welsh company has restored a classic German sportswear to such a high standard it’s now gone on show at Mercedes-Benz world in the UK.

Mercedes-Benz World on the site of the famous Brooklands Race Track in Weybridge selected a Hemmels of Cardiff motorcar for display and the 1957 Mercedes-Benz 190SL right-hand drive roadster, is prominently featured in the main reception area.

The restoration was commissioned by a London-based private collector who chose to finish the car in Anthracite Grey with Red Interior. Now estimated at a value of £365,000, the restoration was undertaken at Hemmels’ bespoke facility in Cardiff taking over 4,000 labour hours to complete.

“Mercedes-Benz World is an exceptional venue and reveals how the quality of the brand goes beyond automotive engineering to the ethos of the entire company and their overall commitment to excellence.” said Joseph Sullivan, CEO, Hemmels. “We’re excited to once again have a Hemmels restoration selected for display at this stunning location.”

Hemmels is celebrating this milestone by hosting an exclusive evening on Friday 15 November at Mercedes-Benz World.
In January 2019 the company accepted a request to feature a 280SL Pagoda also restored at Hemmels. Both cars will feature at Mercedes Benz World until the early part of 2020.

Offering a new car buying experience, Hemmels’ clients can order a Mercedes-Benz classic car in the colours of their choice along with bespoke options and preferences.  Hemmels then restores the cars according to the exacting standards of its trademarked Neugeboren (“newborn”) Process where every car is fully dismantled and rebuilt from its bare metal beginnings over a 52 week period.  Like a new car purchase, a full 12 month parts and labour warranty is included along with servicing options.

Hemmels is pleased to welcome interested parties for a personal tour of the showroom and facilities through prior appointment. The company will be displaying a selection of its classic cars at the NEC Classic Car show, National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham, UK from 8-10 November.
