With Music in Mind, a Cowbridge based singing and social group, has been awarded £1,000 from Taylor Wimpey South Wales, after being announced as the winner of the homebuilder’s Community Chest competition.
Running throughout May, the competition aimed to bring the Cowbridge community together, asking local people to nominate a charity, organisation or individual who they believe deserved a helping hand. After receiving over 145 entries, With Music in Mind were selected as winners of the competition.
With Music in Mind is a local not-for-profit company for those aged 50 and over. The organisation has been running since 2015 aiming to tackle loneliness and social isolation through singing, social groups and more recently, gentle exercise groups.
The older community are especially vulnerable to loneliness and social isolation; according to Age UK, 1.4 million older people in the UK are often lonely. With Music in Mind hopes to improve the lives of older people, allowing them to join weekly groups to sing, socialise and form new friendships.
Sarah Miles, Managing Director at With Music in Mind said: “We’re delighted to be crowned winners of the competition! The wonderful prize will support the upkeep of our groups and facilities.
“It’s great to have the local community nominate us – With Music in Mind is incredibly important to the older community and we encourage anyone over the age of 50 who’s feeling isolated to come along to our weekly groups. Here you can have fun, form friendships and improve your mental well-being.”
Danielle Heard, Sales and Customer Director for Taylor Wimpey South Wales, said: “As we continue to build a new community in Cowbridge, we’re pleased to be able to support a local organisation that tackles loneliness. This was such a worthy cause that really touched our hearts and we hope this donation will help With Music in Mind continue to deliver their important services.”
