Blue skies and high fives were the orders of the day as Cardiff and Vale University Health Board staff came out in force to support their local hospital charity at the annual Cardiff Bay Bed Push event on Sunday 12 May 2019.

Hundreds of people came down to Cardiff Bay Barrage for the second Bed Push Challenge to support Doctors, Nurses, Allied Health Professionals, Health Board Staff and corporate supporters Admiral Law who were raising money for wards and departments through Cardiff & Vale Health Charity.

The atmosphere was electric, with music and cheers of encouragement which could be heard from one side of Cardiff Bay to the other.

[aoa id=”1″]Fourteen teams took part in the Battle of the Beds, hoping to be crowned fastest team, racing their themed bed from one side of the barrage to the other.  There were also prizes also for the most amount raised for Cardiff & Vale Health Charity as well as for the best decorated bed.[/aoa]

The Pod Pushers won the Bed Push Challenge with the fastest time and Choose Life won the Bed Dressed Bed competition with their entry based on the 1980’s.

Teams that took part raised money that will go directly back into wards, departments and hospitals or to a Health Charity appeal of their choice – The PROP Appeal, The Breast Centre Appeal, The Make It Better Fund, Our Orchard or the Better Life Appeal to help make things better for patients.

Joanne Brandon, Director of Communications, Arts, Health Charity and Engagement said: “I felt very proud to come down to Cardiff Bay to support the teams taking part in Bed Push Challenge.

“I was blown away by the amount of effort that all of the teams had put into their costumes and decorating their beds.

“To see the smiles on everyone’s faces and hear the teams being cheered on by their supporters was amazing – all to raise money for their wards and departments to help make things better for their patients.

“I’d just like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved in the event and I can’t wait for next year’s event.

Cardiff & Vale Health Charity would like to thank event hosts Nathan Wyburn and Wayne Courtney, event sponsors Poppi Furniture and Algeos for their contributions to this event, also to Asda Pentwyn, Chapmans Removals, Celtic Prop Hire and their fantastic team volunteers who gave their time to take part.

There is still time to support the team. Please visit the JustGiving website.
