The Vale of Glamorgan Council will shortly begin the latest improvement work at Penarth Pier Pavilion – with new decking and lighting set to be installed.
Extensive repair and maintenance has taken place since the Council took over responsibility for the building two years ago.
The Council-operated Big Fresh Café and Bar offers locally-sourced food and drink, with all profits invested back into Vale schools to enhance the meals service and support other initiatives.
Events and classes, including concerts and lectures, are staged there, a boardroom is available to local businesses, while the building itself can be hired out as a wedding venue or for other functions.
Snowcat have also reopened the cinema and show films regularly throughout the year.
This latest work will see lighting sunk into new decking boards to better illuminate the pavilion.
It will also be possible to bathe the building in a range of colours to mark various memorial and awareness days.
Decking will be replaced on all lower levels and upper balconies of the pavilion with boards that are in keeping with the main pier.
Cllr Rhiannon Birch, Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet Member for Education, Arts and the Welsh Language, said: “Since taking over operation of Penarth Pier Pavilion a couple of years ago, the Council has set about restoring it as a community asset.
“Widespread upgrading work has been carried out, the Big Fresh Café and Bar has opened and there are a variety of activities and events organised for residents and visitors to enjoy.
“Next, outdated decking will be replaced with boards sympathetic to the history and heritage of the pier.
“New lighting will also be installed to give this iconic building the eye-catching illumination it deserves.”
