Innovative Children’s Summer Scheme takes off at Star Hub

Children at Star Leisure Centre are getting holiday happy thanks to a range of stimulating and healthy activities funded by sponsorship from local engineering firm Centergreat.

Working alongside charity Streetgames, Better has organised the Fit, Fed and Read programme on Mondays and Fridays for children aged 8 and above to get active and take part in sport and culture. Sessions start with fruit and toast followed by various sporting activities, indoor and outdoor for a couple of hours before a light healthy lunch. Each attender is given a small journal to record their participation.

Deborah Yates, Manager, Better Cardiff, said:

As every parent knows, it does not take long for the novelty of the school holidays to wear off, and children to start complaining that they are bored. Fortunately, Better Star Hub has plenty of extra entertainment for children during the long break: from table tennis to football to arts and crafts plus reading challenges. With so many exciting experiences to try, there’s something for everyone. We’ve joined forces with the Star Hub Library and Cafe Innovate to develop the programme and we are grateful for the support of so many organisations to make the activities free. Over 100 children have taken part so far.”

Fit, Fed and Read @Star hub is open to all aged eight and above. For more information contact Better Cardiff on02922 401222
