Ironman 70.3 Swansea sells out

IRONMAN Pembrokeshire

Entries for IRONMAN® 70.3® Swansea, taking place on 14 July 2024, are now sold out. This year’s race will see a record-breaking 2,250 athletes take to the start line, with over half of the field being IRONMAN 70.3 first timers and the highest number of female participants yet (21.2%). IRONMAN 70.3 Swansea has now sold out in all three of its years since inception and joins IRONMAN® Wales as the second race on the UK calendar for 2024 to sell out. This means all of the Welsh races are now full.

The race, which was voted as having the Best Run Course in Europe in the IRONMAN Athletes’ Choice Awards, has attracted athletes from all over the world – including the likes of the UK, US, Germany and Switzerland, who can all look forward to traversing the Gower Peninsula and to a hero’s welcome in Swansea’s city centre.

Robert Francis Davies, Swansea Council cabinet member for investment, regeneration, events and tourism, said: “It’s great news that IRONMAN 70.3 Swansea is a sell-out for the third consecutive year – every year, together with the World Triathlon Para Series, it brings more than £2m to our local economy. We know how much the athletes and supporters enjoy our city’s spectacular location and natural beauty that make is such a fantastic stage for major events. It’s a major reason why sports and music promoters keep coming back year after year, giving the people of Swansea a brilliant range of events. This year we’ll once again welcome events such as IRONMAN 70.3 Swansea, the World Triathlon Para Series, the Wales Airshow, outdoor theatre and a series of Singleton Park concerts by world-class musicians.”

Welsh Government Deputy Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism, said: “We’re delighted to support IRONMAN 70.3 Swansea for the third year – and this excellent news that the event has sold out is testimony to its success and popularity with competitors. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to Wales again this year and wish everyone well with their training.”

IRONMAN 70.3 Swansea Race Director, Rebecca Sutherland, said: “We are immensely proud that both of our Welsh IRONMAN races have sold out this year and welcome a record number of athletes to the country. It’s a testament to the incredible locations as well as the fantastic support from the locals we see year after year. The Welsh spirit truly is unrivalled! We can’t wait to be back in Wales for IRONMAN 70.3 Swansea on Sunday 14th July and IRONMAN Wales on Sunday 22nd September this year.”

A race that delivers in so many ways; combining outstanding natural beauty and rich history with an exciting course and renowned Welsh support.

The one-loop 1.2-mile (1.9km) swim begins at the Prince of Wales Dock, followed by the one-loop 56-mile (90km) bike course through the Mumbles along roads that hug the Gower’s coastal clifftops before cycling out through Rural Swansea and heading back along Swansea Bay into the city. Lastly, athletes will take on a 13.1-mile (21.1km) two loop run course which takes them from the city centre, out past the new eye-catching gold-coloured Swansea Arena, towards Mumbles before heading back towards the finish line at the Marina.

A must-do race on any athlete’s calendar.

There are still a very limited amount of Enhanced Athlete Event Experiences powered by Nirvana left if you’re looking for a way into this sold out event.
