Just Eat extends its NHS discount

Just Eat has extended its NHS discount after being blown away by the response – with Britain’s healthcare heroes saving more than £1.5 million on meals in just two weeks.

The takeaway delivery app has been receiving thousands of orders per day from NHS staff since it launched the 25 per cent discount a fortnight ago.

It was introduced as a thank you to the 1.3 million dedicated workers who have been putting themselves on the frontline of the UK’s response to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Due to the huge demand and to show continued support for the NHS, it has now extended the discount for a further two weeks.

Andrew Kenny, UK managing director, Just Eat, said: “We are proud to be making a small difference to the individuals and families of those working for our fantastic NHS.

“Over the last few weeks we’ve heard from many of our customers and hardworking restaurant partners, who want to join in the efforts of supporting those doing an heroic job right now.

“We’re working on an initiative that will enable them to do just that.”

To date, hundreds of thousands of NHS and Northern Ireland’s HSC staff – both on the frontline and those playing a supporting role in the fight against coronavirus – have used the discount to order meals to their place of work or for their families.

Meals have ranged from large group orders enough to feed a whole team of healthcare workers, to individual dishes at the end of a long shift.

In addition to extending the discount, the food delivery app will be introducing a longer term initiative to support more people on the frontline who are putting themselves at risk, in order to help others.

The discount entitles NHS and Northern Ireland’s HSC workers 25 per cent off every day at more than 35,000 of Just Eat’s restaurant partners across the UK.

To be eligible, staff just need to visit the Just Eat website to register their NHS or HSC email address.

They then get a verification email to ensure it’s an active NHS account. Once verified, they get a discount which can be used online.

Andrew Kenny added: “With the huge strain on our frontline workers set to continue for the foreseeable future, we want to show our support to the people doing an extraordinary job of keeping this country going.”
