As Valentine’s Day approaches, staff and volunteers at RSPCA Newport Animal Centre are eager to find a loving home for Lilly, an 11-year-old Pug currently under their care. Despite her age, Lilly is energetic and affectionate, enjoying human companionship and outdoor exploration. She thrives on attention and loves to cuddle on laps.
Lilly has faced some health challenges, including the removal of all her teeth, but she has adapted well and maintains a healthy appetite. Due to her discomfort around other dogs, she would do best in a pet-free home with someone who can spend most of the day with her. She can live with older children and would be an ideal companion for someone seeking a quiet life.
Hayley said: “Lilly is an older girl at 11-years-old but she is young at heart and full of life. Lilly loves human attention and will sit on your lap for cuddles She enjoys spending her time pottering and sniffing in the off-lead paddock.
“Lilly loves people but finds being around dogs very stressful, so she would not be able to live with other dogs.
“She is also on a special diet. Lilly needs a retirement home, with someone who is happy to live a quiet life with her during her golden years.”
As a brachycephalic breed, Lilly may be prone to certain health issues common in flat-faced animals. The RSPCA provides information on these concerns and has launched the ‘Save Our Breath’ campaign, urging the public to consider the health implications of selectively bred animals.
Hayley added: “Lilly could live with older children, but would need an animal free home where she can lap up all the attention with someone home most of the day. She may be an older lady but she still has a strong spring in her step and likes to be around your feet, so would suit a family who are able to enjoy her energy.
“We really hope she will find her perfect match – but whatever happens she’ll get all the love from us at the centre this Valentine’s Day.”
With the cost of living rising, the RSPCA is concerned that more pets may be abandoned due to expensive veterinary bills. They encourage anyone struggling to seek support from reputable animal welfare charities and have established a dedicated cost of living hub to assist pet owners.
The RSPCA is also inviting the public to participate in ‘Animal Futures: the Big Conversation’ to discuss the future of animal welfare in the UK.
