Lidl GB will be opening a new supermarket on Cardiff Bay Retail Park, following delegated approval by Cardiff City Council planning department.
The new supermarket marks the ninth for Lidl in Cardiff, serving even more of the local community Lidl’s high quality and affordable produce. The store is set to create up to 40 new roles for the area and will feature facilities including a 1,240m² sales area, an in-store bakery, a customer toilet with baby changing facilities. Works for the new store will commence later this year.
Lidl GB’s Regional Head of Property, Paul Hebblethwaite, commented: “We could not be more delighted to have received planning permission. This would mark our ninth store for Cardiff and it will be fantastic to serve the local area in the Bay with our fresh, quality, great value products in the not too distant future. We very much look forward to getting started on our fit-out programme in due course.
The new supermarket forms part of the company’s £1.3bn investment plans across Great Britain in 2021 and 2022. Its ongoing success shows no signs of slowing, with the latest Kantar Worldpanel results highlighting Lidl’s increase in sales year on year and market share of 5.7%.
