Lidl reveals plans for new store in Swansea

Lidl GB has announced plans to deliver a new store on Gorseinon Road in Penllergaer, Swansea, to replace its existing store currently on the same road.

The multi-million-pound investment will see Lidl commit to building a new supermarket on the site of the former Poundstretcher. The store will have a 1,414m² sales area, with plans to create around 10 new full and part time jobs, as well as retaining all the existing employees from the current store. The supermarket will include an instore bakery, customer toilets and ample parking for both cars and bicycles.

Lidl GB’s Regional Head of Property, Paul Hebblethwaite, commented: “We are extremely excited about the prospect of opening a new and improved supermarket in Penllergaer, which will allow for a larger, modern and enhanced shopping experience for local residents, whilst delivering a greater range of our high quality and affordable produce.

“Our plans are set to create around 10 additional jobs, which will be fantastic for the local area, and we hope that as many people as possible are able to join us for the ‘virtual’ public consultation. We look forward to sharing and discussing our plans with everyone.”

The new store forms part of the company’s £1.3bn investment plans across Great Britain in 2021 and 2022. Its ongoing success shows no signs of slowing, with the latest Kantar Worldpanel results highlighting Lidl’s increase in sales year on year and market share of 5.9%.

During the outline of the plans, the public are invited to comment on the proposals via a dedicated website: https://consultations.tetratecheurope.com/consultations/lidl-gorseinon/ until midnight on Monday 22nd February.
