City Hospice, Cardiff’s local hospice, is pleased to welcome, Liz Andrews, as its new Chief Executive.
Andrews joined Cancer Research Wales in 2004 as a fundraiser and “loved it from the first moment and knew I had found the perfect career in the third sector”. In 2011, she was promoted to the role of Charity Director, which saw her take a strategic lead in the charity’s direction and future.
During her time, millions of pounds have been raised to fund high calibre research, ensuring Cancer Research Wales will make a true difference to the people of Wales. She has opened several stores, including the Pritchard and Moore wedding shop in Whitchurch, managed several transformational projects and helped to make the charity the success it is today.
The former Cancer Research Wales Director replaces Mike Walsh, who will be retiring at the end of June. Walsh joined the charity in 2015 and oversaw the charity’s change of name from George Thomas Hospice Care to City Hospice. Under his leadership, City Hospice also secured a partnership with Cardiff and Vale University Health Board to provide community-based palliative care across the whole of Cardiff.
Liz says she can’t wait to start her new role with City Hospice.
[bs-quote quote=”The charity has a fantastic reputation, which is testament to the hard work and energy that the entire team give to it. I’m very much looking forward to working with these exceptional staff, volunteers and trustees. City Hospice provides an essential service to those who need it most. In my previous role, people would often share their personal stories of the last few months they spent with loved ones. The memories they created with a partner, parent, sibling or child were so special to them. By providing the best quality of life for as long as possible ensures that there is an opportunity to create these memories. I feel very privileged to be part of this special charity.
Mike Walsh and the team have worked incredibly hard to secure the contract to provide palliative care across the city. I look forward to building on this achievement with the team, and ensuring together, we continue to work hard for the benefit of the people of Cardiff.” style=”style-8″ align=”center” color=”#81d742″ author_name=”Liz Andrews” author_job=”Chief Executive, City Hospice” author_avatar=”https://www.wales247.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/liz-andrews-small.jpg”][/bs-quote]
David Lloyd, Chair of the Council of Management for City Hospice, said the charity was looking forward to welcoming Liz into the role of Chief Executive. “The board of trustees very much welcome Liz Andrews joining us at an exciting time of expansion for City Hospice, which now looks forward to supporting all who reside in Cardiff. A special thanks to Mike Walsh, as retiring Chief Executive, for the significant contribution he has made to ensure Liz inherits a friendly and supportive professional hospice service.”
