Man charged with causing grievous bodily harm in Swansea High Street incident

Officers in Swansea investigating a serious assault that took place in High Street on Thursday 18th July have charged a man.

Colin Thomas Payne, aged 61, from Swansea has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm. He has been remanded in custody and will appear in Swansea Crown Court on Monday 19th August.

A 21-year-old man and 50-year-old woman who were both arrested in connection with this incident have been released under investigation.

The 54-year-old victim is still in hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

Detective Chief Inspector Matt Davies, from Swansea CID, said: “We understand the community in and around High Street have been concerned about this incident and we share these concerns.

We have worked relentlessly since Thursday afternoon, carrying out house to house enquiries, recovering CCTV footage and conducting an extensive search of the area to gather enough evidence to charge Payne.

“We are grateful for the support of the High Street community who have assisted us with our enquiries and would continue to appeal for anyone with information to contact us on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, quoting occurrence number 1900262179.”
