Commuters will be relived this morning to find that Mardy Bridge in Cardiff, the road that links Rumney to Newton, is now open ahead of schedule.
The 121 year-old road bridge, which connects Rumney and Newton, has been replaced with a new and improved structure to give clearance for electric trains beneath as part of Network Rail’s Railway Upgrade Plan.
The new bridge was closed in January of this year with the upgrade due for completion in Autumn 2018, but the bridge has reopened ahead of schedule. The new structure will also be able to withstand the modern city centre traffic above.
