New family volunteering programme coming to Monmouthshire

Monmouthshire

Monmouthshire will soon boast a new family volunteering programme.

Family Volunteering Club makes it easy for children aged 0-9 and their grown-ups to help at important causes on their doorstep.

Monmouthshire County Council wants to help create a society in which every child grows up feeling connected to their local community and understands the positive role they can play in helping change issues that matter to them.

The programme will include eight fun and impactful child-friendly volunteering sessions hosted by local charities.

Sessions will be free and suitable for ages 0 – 9, plus their grown-ups, bringing local families together to get hands on in their community.

Family Volunteering Club will take place between May – July 2024 and will be created in consultation with the local community.

The full programme of sessions will be announced in April 2024.

The programme has been funded in a partnership between Monmouthshire County Council and Monmouthshire Housing Association thanks to the Levelling Up Fund.

Monmouthshire County Council’s cabinet member for education, Martyn Groucutt, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for children and their families in Abergavenny and the wider area.

“Not only will they benefit from the experience of volunteering, but they will no doubt make friends and gain skills which will be useful later in life.

“I look forward to seeing the impact the Family Volunteering Club will have in Abergavenny.”
