New parking charge arrangements in Pontypridd and Aberdare

Credit: RCT Council

RCT Council has announced the current car parking arrangements will be extended in Pontypridd and Aberdare by two weeks until September 7 – and will then remain FREE all-day on Saturdays and after 3pm on weekdays thereafter.

In response to the Coronavirus emergency, parking charges haven’t been applied at Council-owned car parks in the two towns since mid-March 2020 – and this arrangement was most recently extended up to August 25.

The free parking was a temporary measure, aimed at supporting the local economy by increasing trade for businesses and increasing employment within the towns. It also supported public health advice by helping residents to avoid having to use the reduced-capacity public transport that many operators were providing.

Today’s announcement will see charges resume in all Council-owned pay and display car parks from Monday, September 7 – however, there are two key amendments from the normal arrangements to further help local businesses going forward.

Saturday parking and parking after 3pm on weekdays will remain FREE of charge after September 7, until further notice. The signage in Council car parks is currently being updated to clearly reflect these new charging arrangements.

Car park season tickets will shortly be available for residents to buy on the Council’s website, via the following link: www.rctcbc.gov.uk/parking.
