Amazon has announced a new site leader at its Swansea fulfilment centre as the site prepares for the festive shopping season.
David Marcok from Bedfordshire will oversee operations at Amazon’s Swansea fulfilment centre, which opened its doors in 2007.
David has worked at Amazon since 2017. He began his Amazon career at an Amazon Fresh fulfilment centre in London following a move from a store management role at a large grocery retailer. The appeal of Amazon for David was the clear progression opportunities he saw available, which have enabled him to progress to the role he has today.
David worked in Amazon Fresh fulfilment for a year before transitioning to the customer fulfilment branch of the business when he took up an area manager role at Amazon’s fulfilment centre in Dunstable. He was soon promoted to operations manager, and later, senior operations manager, which he worked as when he transferred to Amazon in Tilbury.
In his early years at Amazon, David also completed a Master of Business Administration and Master of Business Communication.
Speaking on his promotion to site leader of Amazon in Swansea, David said: “My career has grown steadily at Amazon since 2017, and this year, it felt like time to take the next step into a role that will allow me to do my very best work.
“Amazon is a brilliant company to work for, as it allows employees like me to make independent decisions about our areas of responsibility. It’s an honour for me to take the helm at Amazon in Swansea – a proud Welsh site and the only Amazon fulfilment centre in Wales.
“As site leader, I want to encourage that pride for our work in Swansea by driving our position in the Amazon network and encouraging local growth for us, and the Welsh SMEs who sell online with us. I also want to strengthen our relationship with the Cwtch Mawr Multibank that Amazon opened in Swansea this year alongside the charity Faith in Families.”
“Wellbeing and diversity are also at the forefront of my mind,” David continued. “Whilst I enjoy how proud we are to be Welsh, I want to ensure that people from all nationalities and cultures have a chance to shine. Amazon in Swansea is already a great place to work because of this, and I endeavour to maintain that positive experience for the entire team here.”
David concluded with words on the kind of culture he will promote at Amazon in Swansea:
“Safety first and quality always. Whatever we do, I want us to do it to the best of our ability. Every day is day one at Amazon, giving new opportunities to focus on what’s important.”
