Nine neighbours in Swansea are celebrating after winning £270,000 with People’s Postcode Lottery all thanks to their postcode.

Nine residents on Kilvey Terrace won £30,000 each when SA1 8BA was announced as a winner on Saturday 28 January.

    The £30,000 winners include:

    • Claire Mugford, a 48-year-old nurse was accepted to do a Master’s degree in advanced practice nursing on the same day as winning £30,000
    • Rachael Barry, a 60-year-old grandmother and art tutor at Crisis, a charity for homeless people
    • Tom Cutliffe, a 34-year old new dad said the win has come at the ‘perfect time’
    • Gina Peccerella, a 64-year who has lived at the postcode and in the same house all of her life

Nurse Claire Mugford (48) scooped £30,000 on the same day she was accepted to study a master’s degree.

Calling her win ‘supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!’, Claire said she could now afford to cut back her hours to focus on her studies.

    Claire Mugford won £30,000

A nurse at Princess of Wales Hospital, Claire said the five-figure win will also help with treating her children to a trip to Disneyworld Florida and making some home improvements: “This money means everything.

“There’s plenty to celebrate as my oldest daughter has just graduated to become a nurse and is getting married this year.

“We’re all going to Florida in August, which will be a part of their honeymoon. I think we’ll upgrade a bit now.”

Claire was delighted that so many of her neighbours had won, she said: “We love living here so it’s nice to see so many people on the street winning.”

Rachael Barry (60) yelled in delight after she caught a glimpse of her £30,000 cheque. Rachel said: “This [win] means a lot. It’s incredible, you don’t ever really think it’s going to happen to you.

“We’ve never had that much money to know what to do with it. We’d like to help our kids out and take our family away with the grandkids and have a little holiday because we haven’t had a holiday for a long time.”

Rachael Barry (60) holds her £30k cheque alongside her husband John

Rachael, who works as an art tutor for Crisis, a charity for homeless people, said: “It’s John’s 60th this year, so I’m going to spoil him. I think we’ll go to the Cotswolds with the whole family to celebrate.”

Rachael’s neighbour Jenna said: “Rachael is such a lovely woman and I’m so happy and chuffed for her that she’s won the Postcode Lottery. She’s worked with so many charities over the years that she deserves to have something back.”

Neighbour and new dad Tom Cutliffe (34) said the win has come at the ‘perfect time’: “It’s brilliant, my wife and I were just planning to do the kitchen so it’s perfect timing.

“We can also take our baby on his first holiday, so it’ll be great. Anywhere hotter than Wales would be nice!”

Gina Peccerella (64) was ‘over the moon’ after receiving a large £30,000 cheque. Gina said: My priority has always been to help my family and friends. So, that’s what I’m happiest about as I’ve never had money like this, and to be able to share it with them is just brilliant.

“I’ve lived here, in this postcode all my life, in the same house and I’m absolutely delighted that many of the street have each won a share.”

Christine McCaughtrie (65) and Linda Salmon (72) were also amongst the winners. Christine said: “It’s wonderful! We really didn’t think we’d win that much when the Postcode Lottery called to say they were coming. It’s such a shock but what a lovely shock to have.”

The other three winners on the street have chosen to remain anonymous.

Postcode Lottery ambassador Matt Johnson said: “A massive congratulations to our nine lucky winners in Swansea! It was my absolute pleasure to surprise many of our winners with this amazing amount of money. It’s been a great day with plenty of big smiles across Kilvey Terrace”.

“I hope they treat themselves to something extra special with the money.”

People’s Postcode Lottery costs £10 a month to play and there are guaranteed winners every day. People play with their chosen postcode and are automatically entered into all draws.

Players of People’s Postcode Lottery have raised more than a billion pounds for thousands of charities and local good causes.

This draw was promoted on behalf of Postcode Animal Trust, which supports charities including Dogs Trust, PDSA and Guide Dogs.
