Welsh Government funding is supporting the phased roll out of Flying Start provision across the county borough.
Key areas within the county borough have been targeted according to need, with areas in Pyle, Kenfig Hill and Maesteg benefitting from phase one of the initiative.
Phase two of the expansion programme is currently underway, with eligible two-year-olds receiving funded childcare provision in areas including Blaengarw, Pontycymmer, Nantyffyllon and parts of Ynysawdre. Further areas, including the Ogmore Valley, are planned for September 2023.
Funding is marked for a variety of projects including classroom adaptations, building refurbishments, as well as new builds – all supporting the childcare expansion scheme.
We are extremely grateful for the substantial funding offered by Welsh Government to support the much-needed expansion of childcare provision in areas throughout the county borough.
The initiative will make a huge difference to families within our communities. The scheme is a long-term plan that will be carefully managed.
Communication is key to enabling this operation to run smoothly. Within the identified areas of development, eligible families for the provision have all been informed by letter.
Childcare providers in areas designated for expansion have also been informed of scheduled plans.
We hope that many of the settings will be open by the end of the year and are awaiting Welsh Government guidance in relation to the completion of the roll out.
