A pair of Cardiff-based podcast specialists have been shortlisted for ‘Creative Industry Entrepreneurs of the Year’ at the Great British Entrepreneur Awards 2020.

Husband and wife team Steve Austins and Marina Lois founded their audio production agency Bengo Media back in 2017. Steve was formerly Station Editor at BBC Radio Wales, whilst Marina has a background as a Station Director and product developer.

Their boutique agency specialises in creating podcasts, radio programmes, audio guides, tours and books; but the primary offering is the training, consultancy and production of branded podcasts for businesses, institutions and individuals.

Since it was founded in late 2017, Bengo Media has produced podcasts for Welsh Government, Sport Wales, Macmillan Cancer Support, HCA Healthcare UK, Dwr Cymru and the BBC; created a number of live and documentary programmes for BBC Radio Wales; and launched a series of training workshops and masterclasses aimed at helping businesses and brands to start their podcasting journey.

This week, it was announced that the founders had reached the regional finals for the Great British Entrepreneur Awards; the winners will be announced at an online awards ceremony which will be live-streamed on September 23rd, 2020.

Founded in 2013, the Great British Entrepreneur Awards acknowledges the hard work and inspiring stories of entrepreneurs and businesses in the United Kingdom. The awards have since celebrated some outstanding entrepreneurs who have gone on to become household names.

Steve Austins, co-founder of Bengo Media said, “It’s really exciting to be nominated for this award. The podcasting industry is booming at the moment, and we’re delighted to be representing the industry right here in the Welsh capital.”

A spokesperson from the Great British Entrepreneur Awards said, “Despite a very tough year for so many, we had a phenomenal number of applications for the 2020 awards, and it’s clear that entrepreneurial spirit is very much alive and well. Our finalists have all beaten off some incredibly stiff competition, and should be very proud.”
