A pair of Preparatory School pupils stepped out of their comfort zone to achieve success at a high-profile sporting event.

Keira Luke and Chloe Tillman-Lennon, Year 6 pupils at Rydal Penrhos, took their place in the field at the Honda RYA Youth RIB Championships, which were held in Pwllheli on Saturday, August 18.

The championship requires the participants to demonstrate their Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) driving skills by completing a floating obstacle course where the fastest time wins.

The course includes a high-speed slalom, a stationary “life-buoy” recovery exercise and a precision reversing challenge.

After a very competitive day of action, Keira and Chloe finished in fifth and sixth respectively in the 8-12 year old category as a result of their outstanding efforts on the water.

Prep School Head Alison Hind, said:

“It always brings a great source of pride to everyone associated with Rydal Penrhos when we hear about our pupils thriving in different and challenging environments, and Keira and Chloe continue to show the determination and will to success we aim to install into every pupil learning here at the Prep School.

“They should be thoroughly proud of their efforts at a very competitive event, and hopefully this will be just the start of great things to come as both continue to develop their skills as part of our specialist sailing programme.”
