More than 100 Principality colleagues will overhaul acres of overgrown land to help the health and wellbeing of patients, visitors and the local community in Llandough.

The ‘Ein Berllan – Our Orchard’ will be created on seven acres of semi-rural pasture and woodland which makes up part of the Llandough Hospital estate. With University Hospital Llandough fast becoming a long-term recovery and rehabilitation hospital, the orchard will help patients enjoy fresh air, natural light, wildflower meadows and lots of wildlife.

Volunteering will include a range of gardening, including clearing, planting, weeding, and path building.

James Harper, corporate social responsibility manager at Principality, said:

“We are delighted to announce this exciting volunteering partnership with the University Hospital Llandough that will provide colleagues with our biggest outdoor make-over challenge to date. The entire project is all about boosting the health and wellbeing of patients and visitors at the hospital and the orchard will become a wonderful resource for the entire community.”

Simone Joslyn, head of arts and health charity said: “Ein Berllan – Our Orchard is an exciting project that will provide a unique outdoor space to our patients who attend University Hospital Llandough, some of which spend a lot of time recovering in a hospital environment. The outdoors provides a healing environment which can aid recovery and rehabilitation and improve health and wellbeing and Our Orchard will be the perfect place to assist this.
