Residents visiting one of Bridgend County Borough’s community testing centres can make the process even easier by downloading the NHS Covid-19 QR code app.
Community testing was launched last week in the Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board region for people who are not showing signs of coronavirus. Statistics from Public Health Wales confirm that one in three people may not display any symptoms and may be passing the virus on to others.
The first testing centre for people aged 11 and over living in Cefn Cribwr, Pyle, Kenfig Hill and Cornelly, is open at Kenfig Hill Rugby and Football Club until tomorrow (Tuesday 9 March).
When arriving at the testing centre, you can check in using the QR code app, which is available to download on the NHS Covid-19 webpage (External link – Opens in a new tab or window). Using your phone, you can scan the QR code displayed on posters.
The NHS Covid-19 app is the fastest way to see if you’re at risk from coronavirus. The faster you know, the quicker you can alert and protect your loved ones and community, helping to stop the spread of coronavirus.
By using the app and scanning QR codes to check into venues, you can then be alerted if you have been in contact with someone who has tested positive for Covid-19.
Community testing is a valuable part of the fight against the coronavirus in Bridgend County Borough, and I urge more residents to come forward and take part – the tests are fast, efficient and no booking is required. Swabs are processed on the premises so participants will be contacted within 30 minutes with the results.
Bridgend County Borough Council Leader Huw David
If a test comes back positive, the participant will be asked to self-isolate while arrangements are made for them to receive a confirmatory test along with further advice and support.
The testing programme is also targeting residents in Caerau, Nantyffyllon, Sarn, Aberkenfig, Coytrahen, Ynysawdre, Bryncethin, Bryncoch, Pencoed, Hendre, Felindre and Heol-Y-Cyw.
The testing centre will move to Pencoed Social Club between 10-16 March, Tondu Cricket Club 17-23 March, and Caerau Athletic Football Club – The Riverboat between 24-31 March.
The walk-in centres are available between 9.30am-6.30pm Monday to Friday, and 10am-4pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
