Review: Thomas & Friends: Big World! Big Adventures!

Thomas makes a break from Sodor Island in his latest quest to fulfil his dream of seeing the world.

Thomas’ big world adventure sees him cross five continents, make lots of new friends and acquaint with old ones in his fun-filled journey.

The film is packed full of sing-along-songs, educational world facts, whilst ensuring they don’t skimp on any of the fun. Thomas’ mischievous ways are plentiful, which does see the little blue engine ‘almost’ get into trouble, but luckily his friends are there to help him overcome the challenges that await. No matter your age or experience, there will always be occasions when you need help – this is just one of the powerful messages in the film.

The film runs for 1 hour and 25 minutes, which our four-year-old did find a little long. Although we felt it could have missed a couple of scenes to make it snappier, it didn’t stop us from enjoying the film. Our daughter has been known to fall asleep at the cinema, but she didn’t on this occasion.

What the film did miss out on was laugh-out-loud moments that cater for adults – the ones that children never get. Disney is very good at doing this. However, don’t let this put you off from taking your little ones. The important thing is that they’ll love it.

On a personal note from growing up watching Thomas and Friends, it was nice to see how they’ve taken the storyline outside of the usual confines of Sodor Island.

We were lucky enough to attend a premiere showing of the film at Showcase Cinema in Nantgarw, ahead of its official UK release on 20th July.
