Will Young returned to Cardiff’s St David’s Hall last night for his 20 Years: The Greatest Hits tour – the same stage which he took to for his first ever solo gig 20 years ago.

Since winning the inaugural series of Pop Idol in the UK, the British singer-songwriter has gone on to have a lustful career both on and off stage, including acting. His debut double A-side single, released after his win on Pop Idol, became the fastest-selling debut single in UK chart history.

Getting people up on their feet, support act Kris James really built the atmosphere, performing his original songs Get Back to Love and The Way You Move, before venturing into covers of Harry Style’s Golden and Cher’s iconic Believe, where he got the crowd involved singing the chorus with their arms in the air.

Reminiscent of Adam Lambert, Kris’ vocals echoed through the grand hall and were met with woops all around, especially when he revealed his Welsh Rugby jersey! Absolutely perfect on the eve’s eve of the Wales game this Saturday! Nice one Kris!

Opening with number one hit Evergreen, Will could hardly be heard over the echoing voices of the audience singing every lyric loudly (sorry, I was probably one of those as well!), but he was certainly visible in his fabulous all-white ruffled tuxedo, which was simply gorgeous.

Performing hits like Jealousy, Light My Fire and All Time Love, before opening the floor for hilarious questions shouted from superfans and the telling of some brilliant stories, Will filled the Hall with laughter and song, before finishing with his first hit Leave Right Now.

With cheers and claps calling for more, Will, alongside his fantastic band and backing singers, returned for an encore of Your Game where everybody was up on their feet dancing along.

With dates in Swansea, Bath and London still on sale, this greatest hits tour from the original pop idol is not one to be missed. Find tickets here.
