Welsh comedian Rhod Gilbert will return this week with a very special episode of his hit series Rhod Gilbert’s Work Experience as he finds out what it’s like to be a care worker.

Filmed last year and broadcast as a tribute to those who are looking after our loved ones, the brand new episode will air this Friday (17 April) at 9.30pm on BBC One Wales and is the latest in a long line of career challenges for the comic.

Rhod Gilbert’s Work Experience – Care Worker will air on BBC One Wales on Friday 17 April at 9.30pm

The episode sees Rhod embark on an emotional journey as he discovers how, even in more ordinary times, the work of carers is so important.

Rhod Gilbert said: “I have been wanting to film a ‘Work Experience’ episode as a Carer for years…and before the Covid-19 outbreak, our little team made it happen.

It was very emotional when we filmed it. Not least because my dad is in a fantastic care home, and my mother died of Alzheimers a few years ago. During filming I was privileged enough to spend a few days helping the staff at a home in Barry, South Wales.

When we filmed it last year, I felt that Carers were one of the least valued and most valuable members of our society; that is no longer in question. I hope you enjoy the programme.”

From providing intimate personal care in the community to joining the staff of a nursing home in Barry, Rhod explores multiple sides of the job with his usual wit and humour before organising a talent show for residents of the nursing home.

Throughout the previous eight series, Rhod has taken on a range of jobs across Wales – from joining the Navy to becoming a member of an airline’s cabin crew – but the latest leaves him in tears and proves to be one of his toughest challenges yet.

Rhod Gilbert’s Work Experience – Care Worker will air on BBC One Wales on Friday 17 April at 9.30pm as well as available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
