Bangor University will hold a concert featuring Sir Bryn Terfel and special guests to mark the university’s 140th anniversary this autumn.

The concert will take place on Friday, 1 November at 7pm at Pontio, the university’s arts and innovation centre, in the theatre named after the world-renowned bass-baritone, Theatr Bryn Terfel.

Tickets will go on sale Wednesday 4 September from the Pontio box office and online.

Bangor alumna Nia Roberts will host the evening which will feature pieces from Sir Bryn’s collaboration with Robat Arwyn, Atgof o’r Sêr and other favourites. The concert will showcase talent from Bangor University and the local area. Joining Sir Bryn on stage will be Meinir Wyn Roberts, originally from Caernarfon, who was Guest Soloist on Sir Bryn Terfel’s UK Songs and Arias Tour, singer-songwriter Eve Goodman, who appears on Sir Bryn’s latest album for Deutsche Grammophon, Sea Songs, and Mali Elwy, recent winner of the Bryn Terfel Scholarship – a current student at Bangor University and trainee tutor on Pontio’s youth engagement programme, Blas.

Dr Iwan Llywelyn Jones, well-known pianist and senior member of the University’s Department of Music, Drama and Performance will also take part in the concert, alongside local choirs Côr Dre and student choir, Côr JMJ led by Bangor alumna Sian Wheway.

Osian Gwynn, Director of Pontio Arts said, “It’s a pleasure to put this programme together with Sir Bryn and his fellow artists to mark the 140th Anniversary of Bangor University. We very much look forward to showcasing the immense and in some cases, world-famous talent which is nurtured here in Bangor and the surrounding area.

Professor Andrew Edwards, Pro-Vice-Chancellor with responsibility for the Welsh language and civic engagement at Bangor University added,

This concert marks one of the highlights of a special year for Bangor as we celebrate our 140thanniversary. We’re delighted that Sir Bryn has found time in his packed schedule to come home to north Wales to perform along with his special guests at Theatr Bryn Terfel. It’s also a pleasure to welcome local choirs to Pontio for what’s set to be an evening to remember this November.”

Tickets are £50 and will be available online from www.pontio.co.uk and in-person or over the phone from the Pontio box office (01248 38 38 28) from 1pm Wednesday 4 September on a first-come, first-served basis.
