Speedway stars and Blood Bikes Wales team up for Cardiff grand prix

Blood Bikes Wales riders meet the Speedway GP riders and legends

The FIM Speedway Grand Prix stars will not be the only motorcycling heroes in Cardiff this weekend as Blood Bikes Wales joins forces with the event as official FIM Speedway GP of Great Britain – Cardiff charity partner.

Blood Bikes Wales is a charity operated completely by volunteers, with its riders providing a free courier service to the National Health Service (NHS), making crucial deliveries, including vital blood supplies and samples, donor milk for specialist baby units, specialist samples such as bone marrow, FMT and essential life-saving medication.

The charity works with six NHS health boards in Wales and will be raising vital funds to support its work in the FIM Speedway GP of Great Britain – Cardiff fanzone on City Hall Lawn from 10am this Saturday. Blood Bikes Wales is also searching for more riders to join its network of two-wheeled heroes, who cover the 8,000 square miles of Wales.

FIM Speedway World Championships director Laura Manciet is delighted to welcome Blood Bikes Wales back as the event’s charity partner for a third straight year.

She said: “While Speedway GP comes to Cardiff once a season, the Blood Bikes Wales riders and volunteers make a difference across Wales throughout the year, and we are pleased to make them part of the FIM British Speedway GP weekend.

“We hope that their partnership with us can increase the visibility of this great charity and that lots of people will visit them in the fanzone to make a donation or maybe join their team of riders.

“We look forward to seeing the Blood Bikes Wales team again on Saturday, along with everyone making the trip to Cardiff for what should be a great night of racing.”

Lesley Isaacs-Penny, vice-chair of Blood Bikes Wales, said: “The FIM British Speedway GP is a great event staged here in Cardiff that puts Wales firmly on the world map.

“We would like to take this opportunity to let more people know about Blood Bikes Wales and the good work that is done throughout Wales by our volunteers, and we look forward to meeting speedway fans from around the world in the fanzone on City Hall Lawn.”
