Cardiff Airport

Cardiff Airport has experienced a strong summer season, with flights in and out of the National Airport for Wales proving highly popular among customers. Tens of thousands of travellers have already utilised Cardiff Airport to embark on holidays or visit family and friends, with more passengers expected in the coming weeks as the airport prepares for a busy August Bank Holiday weekend.

This year, Cardiff Airport has provided customers with increased options to “fly local and go global,” with a wide range of destinations available. The top 10 most popular destinations from Cardiff Wales Airport this summer include:

  • Alicante (TUI, Vueling & Ryanair)
  • Malaga (TUI, Vueling & Ryanair)
  • Amsterdam (KLM)
  • Majorca (TUI)
  • Dublin (Ryanair)
  • Tenerife (TUI & Ryanair)
  • Belfast (Aer Lingus)
  • Dalaman (TUI)
  • Antalya (TUI)
  • Algarve (TUI & Ryanair)

In response to the strong demand from passengers, Cardiff Airport’s airline partners have enhanced their offerings:

  • TUI has added an extra 12,000 holidays to its schedule this year.
  • Vueling has increased the number of flights to Malaga in September and October.
  • Ryanair will continue operating flights to Tenerife during the winter season.

Looking ahead, Cardiff Airport is set to welcome PLAY airlines in October. The low-cost Icelandic airline will begin operating two weekly flights directly to Keflavík from 10 October for a six-week period. PLAY also offers connecting flights to major cities such as New York, Boston, Baltimore, Washington, and Toronto from its Keflavík hub.

Enhancements have also been made within the airport, where two brand-new catering facilities have recently opened in the departure lounge, providing an improved experience for travellers.

Spencer Birns, CEO of Cardiff Wales Airport, commented on the positive developments: “We’ve had a positive year so far, with growth in the number of customers using their National Airport. From January to the end of July, passenger numbers have grown by 8% compared to 2023. We’re really pleased to hear feedback from our customers that they’re enjoying improved facilities in the terminal. Our teams and partners have been working really hard to enhance customer experience. This year, we’ve also celebrated some great milestones with partners like Balkan Holidays, which started popular direct flights to Bulgaria 45 years ago from Cardiff Wales Airport.”

Cardiff Airport remains committed to providing exceptional service and more travel options as it continues to grow and evolve, solidifying its position as a key gateway for travellers in Wales.
