Swansea leisure centres join Summer of Fun

The LC.

Leisure centres across Swansea are putting on free and subsidised activities this summer as part of the city’s Summer of Fun.

Freedom Leisure has teamed up with Swansea Council to help keep children and young people fit and active during the school holidays.

Activities include dodgeball, junior fitness classes, basketball, cheerleading and dance.

Freedom Leisure is a not-for-profit trust that runs the community leisure centres at Penlan, Penyrheol, Morriston, Cefn Hengoed, Bishopston as well as the LC and the Elba.

It is one of dozens or groups and organisations that successfully applied for grant funding from Swansea Council and the Welsh Government to stage summer activities.

The Summer of Fun programme along with information and contact details can now be found at www.swansea.gov.uk/summeroffun.

Robert Francis Davies, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Investment, Regeneration and Tourism, said: “The last 16 months have been difficult for us all but particularly our children and young people so the council is determined to ensure that there is plenty of free activities so that they can enjoy during the summer holidays.

“I’m pleased that we are working with Freedom Leisure and many other partners to ensure this happens.”

Robyn Lock Freedom Leisure’s Swansea Active Communities Manager said ‘Working with Swansea Council is something we are proud of. Together we are able to offer plenty of opportunities across all our centres to keep young people in Swansea active.

“We know how important physical activity is for young people, of course there’s health benefits, but it keeps young people resilient and gives them a social outlet. Our aim is to make sure young people see Freedom Leisure centres as their leisure centres, their safe space.”
